The Oregon Trail Museum
The Oregon Trail, put in place by President James k. Polk, was the primary method of migration for pioneers who were land-bound across the nation in the late 1800's. Routes led travelers from the Missouri River to the outskirts of the Oregon Territory. The modern museum starts where the old road ends.
You can enjoy presentations by live history interpreters, each garbed in clothing appropriate to the time period. The children can take part in "Bound for Oregon," an engaging experience suitable for the entire clan that uses a wide array of different media, including hands on activities for the youngest adventurers.
The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry
Of all the great field trips for kids in Portland, none has quite the measure of fun and learning as the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, or OMSI for short. The museum was founded in 1944, and with over 200,00 square feet of edu-fun sprinkled across hundreds of interactive exhibits, OMSI is one of the country's foremost science museums.
The museum is located on the east end of the stunning Williamette River with a view that must be seen to be believed.
Forest Park
Forest Park is one of the great field trips for kids, as long as your kids don't mind walking! The park has over five thousand acres if you're eager to explore. It's wide landscape makes it the largest city park in the nation.
Fifty miles of walking trail and thirty for biking, make it a massive playground for unlimited fun. Just be sure to not get lost!
Powell's City of Books
Powell's City of Books is bookstore that must be experienced to be believed. It's frame takes a full city block and houses an almost unbelievable one million volumes. Portland natives have been known to get lost inside for days. If your little ones love to read, there isn't a better adventure within the city limits.
