(1) The first step for building the family tree is to start with your name. After that you have to move backwards. Use a regular notebook to record the information; you can also use a software program that can sort everything out for you.

(2) The second step is to locate as much information as possible about all of your family members. You have to find the basic things such as place and date of birth, date of wedding, name of the spouses and the places and date of death.

These pieces of information are really important as it will further aid in your research.

(1) To start writing down your family tree, the first step is to start with the individuals whom you know and then work backwards from there. Even if you come across blank spaces there is no need to worry, as some more research can help you to fill those blanks.

(2) There are many ways to start with your family tree. You may start with the present members of your family. You can interview them; it will help you to gather as much information as possible.

(3) You can also use the ancestral family stores as a source of information for your family tree. Document it so you can always consult it later on. Another thing that you can use to form a family tree is the family bible. The family bible records life events like births, deaths and marriages of the past generations. Similarly, the records like birth or death certificates as well as marriage certificates can also be useful.

(4) Apart from your family resources there are many other places that you can visit to research for your family tree. If you have an access to the internet you will not have to even leave your home. Some of the online resources offer you a free access. However some of them might require a subscription for you to use them.

You can easily access a lot of public records for free. They will help you make a comprehensive and accurate family tree.
