The Yeah Yeah Yeah's Recent Release - Its Blitz
One thing the Yeah Yeah Yeah's (YYY) are good at is leaving their audience wanting more. Past albums, Fever to Tell and Show Your Bones, have had a few amazing songs, but were overall disappointing to fans.
YYYs recent release, Its Blitz, show that the band is entering a deeper, more mature stage. The incredible energy and dynamic psyche of Karen O shines through in every song. Its Blitz, takes a different direction then the past albums edgy, punk styles. Their sound is cleaner and more delicate, the album is a mix of synthesized tracks and enthusiastic ballads.
Its Blitz shows the true talent of YYY composer Nick Zinner as well. While the album has already received comparisons to albums by every band from the BeeGees to Blondie to Radiohead, Zinner produces what is truly a unique sound. And while Its Blitz's soundscape could have easily become too sonically dense and emotionless, Karen O works overtime to provide a stellar performance, adding all kinds of soul and depth to each song. If you heard the track Runaway somewhere, you probably would never know it was the Yeah Yeah Yeahs if it wasn't for Karen O's distinctive vocals. This slow moving ballad starts out with a pretty melody on the piano, which continues throughout the song.
After this ballad is Dragon Queen, a eccentric song perfect for the discos and dance clubs. The pop infused dance beats have come as a surprise to most YYY fans, but they all agree with Karen O when she states that Dragon Queen is so catchy, "How are you not going to get high, high?".
It's Blitz, is partly so beautiful due to the tiny perfectionist details in each songs. YYY fans are impressed by the evolution of the group, and their ability to maintain the energy and uniqueness that they are known for.
